Off Grid Showers Options

1. Bucket Shower

A bucket shower also called a navy shower, is a great way to save gallons of water.

As the name suggests, most bucket showers make use of an actual bucket or water barrels.

This type of shower is used when there is no access to running water. This design is usually seen on military base camps.

This bucket of water is placed on top of a flat surface and is attached to a hose. This could be as simple as a garden hose.

You can also use a shower hose if you opt to go fancy.

With this basic design, you can conserve water by using a tap at the bottom and control the flow rate. Other kinds of bucket showers don’t use a hose but use a shower head instead.

The water flow is still controlled by using a tap. To have a nice and warm shower, all that’s needed to be done is to fill up the bucket with warm water, and you’re good to go.

Sometimes, to get warm water, these buckets are heated up by using wood-fueled stoves. This way, you can get enough water.

Most bucket showers are placed indoors, but they can be used outdoors, too.

This portable outdoor shower is easily set up, and you can have the privacy you need simply by placing simple curtains around the shower.

When using this kind of shower, expect that you can only take a shower for a short time, since most buckets cannot hold much water. It’s a simple shower, and it’s a great way to save precious water when outdoors.

2. Solar Shower

If you’re outdoors or off-grid, you should have access to direct sunlight and direct sunlight is what this portable shower needs.

Unlike the bucket shower, this kind of shower doesn’t need wood or a propane stove for you to have a nice warm shower.

This type of shower uses solar heating as its heat source so you can have your desired water temperature and save electricity at the same time.

The great thing about this is that you can not only use it for camping, but you can install it for your home, and it’s a great help, especially during warmer months.

There are different types of solar showers.

Sometimes called a camp shower bag, the solar shower bag is used outdoors. It’s a portable shower that you can bring with you anywhere.

All you have to do is place the bag under the heat of the sun, wait for the water to get to the perfect temperature, and take a nice warm shower.

You can install a makeshift shower stall with just enough room for you to take a shower.

These shower bags are also perfect for a road shower.

Another type of solar shower is those that are placed for indoor plumbing. We all know that most off grid living makes use of solar power.

This shower is no different. With the heat that solar panels catch, the task of heating water is mostly done by the solar system.

Using a solar shower for your home is really a great way to use clean energy and heat water without adding up to your electricity bills.

It is also an ideal water heater especially when there is a power outage.

Now that we have an idea of the types of shower we can use, water heaters are important, too. Having these heaters are a great way to keep your shower warm.

3. Portable Tankless Water Heater – Off Grid Showers

Cold water in the winter months is not exactly pleasant. This is why portable tankless water heaters are of great help.

Tankless hot water heaters can be used by connecting a water pump to an x-gallon water tank. Connect it with hoses and choose the water temperature desired.

You can easily find water heaters running on 2 D-cell batteries.

These on-demand water heaters make use of a simple system and are perfect for an off grid cabin. Some of the reasons why these water heaters are great include their low price.

It comes at a reasonable cost especially because they are lightweight and compact. The insides of the heaters are expected to have a long life since corrosion does not usually happen even with cold water inside.

This means that these heaters can last for a long time.

Sometimes, off grid living space can be small.

This is why these water heaters are the perfect match since it only takes up a small space. As small as they are, they are just as easy to install.

All you have to do is connect them to a source of electricity and they’re ready. However, everything has its negative side. These portable water heaters have a low flow rate.

4. Weed Sprayer Pressurized Shower

If you’re already starting your off grid lifestyle, then using this could be a practical way. This method uses a shower hose, a low flow shower nozzle, a shower wand, and a valve.

It’s usually identical to the showers you see in a community center. It is fairly easy to set up a weed sprayer shower. It can even be your weekend project, too!

Another option is to have a specific tank and an electric pump. This option makes use of heat exchangers to heat your water tank as you drive.

A way for you to get water off grid is to have either a hand pump or a foot pump at home. Another way is to catch water during rainy days.

This is actually the easiest kind of water system that you can use. Another way is to use solar power. These pumps offer high water pressure but might need more draw of power.

There are many ways for you to enjoy your day at a dry cabin or in your off grid house. The truth is, for a long time, going off grid can be rewarding!
