Colleagues,

I hope you each had a productive week. On Monday, the World of Wellesley hosted a breakfast gathering to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The keynote speaker, Dr. Jennifer Yanco, challenged the audience to consider how we honor figures from the past. She noted that we often focus on those elements of a person’s life in which we are most comfortable while ignoring those areas in which we are challenged. To this end, Dr. Yanco reminded us that Dr. King was outspoken in his focus on materialism and poverty, militarism, and racism, even though he is most often associated only with the last of these topics. Table groups later in the morning then discussed what we can do locally to help support Dr. King’s broad vision across these areas. I want to thank the World of Wellesley for bringing together so many members of our community for this important discussion.

This week, I also welcomed my new Administrative Assistant, Ms. Allison DiRenzo. Allison comes to us from Boston University, where she served in the office of the Dean of Admissions. Please join me in welcoming Allison to our WPS family!

Thank you for your support of our students each day and have a great weekend!

David
